Bezos Advises Journalists to Stay Tuned for News on the Amazon Tablet
Rumors that Amazon intend to follow up the success of the Kindle 3 were neither confirmed or denied by Jeff Bezos who, when asked about the possibility of a new Amazon tablet computer, coyly told industry journalists to “stay tuned”. However, he did go on to say that Amazon would always be “very mindful” that they will always need a dedicated reading device. I suppose that can be taken to mean that, if (when?) Amazon does release a tablet computer, it will definitely be as an addition to the Kindle rather than some all singing, all dancing replacement.
Amazon is said to already have a deal in place with Taiwanese manufacturer Quanta, who already produce electronic devices for both Sony and Blackberry, for the manufacture of the Amazon tablet. Capacity is said to be set at a maximum of 800,000 which, if an accurate estimate, should give some indication of Amazon’s ambitions in this market.
